Spartans start season with big victory

Football team scores 70 in season-opening win over Fort Zumwalt East

Members of the football team run off the field on Aug. 18 after their season-opening win. The Spartans defeated Fort Zumwalt East 70-52

The football team started off playing as if they were in a state championship game: focused, dedicated, and determined. That motivation and mentality stuck with them throughout the whole game. Senior Keon Waters and junior Dontae Horace were key players who led Central to victory against Fort Zumwalt East, 70-52 on Aug. 18.

“The most rewarding part is just praying up to my cousins in the sky, knowing they’re looking down on me doing great [things]. I think our hardwork has paid off a lot; we did a lot of conditioning, a lot of running, suicides, and 100 yards. It’s paid off a lot,” Waters said.

Starting off the season with a victory has ignited a special confidence for each and every player, according to Horace.

The Spartans will play at St. Charles West on Sept. 1 at 7 p.m.
