Strong start for a hopeful team

Boys soccer is off to a strong start in one of the most promising seasons seen by this team.

The boys soccer team has had great success in recent years. Always a strong team, they have had a grasp at the playoffs most seasons, but in recent years haven’t gone as far as they hoped. However, with an extremely strong senior class, this could be their year to go all the way. They were 3-2 going into game six against Howell North, having lost to Howell and De Smet. Despite a strong showing, they lost in PK’s to North on Tuesday. This has not deterred the strong willed team.

Logan Morris, senior, is hopeful about the outcome of this season.

“I think we have a huge chance of winning districts, I think we have a good chance of final four, and I think this year we have a chance at state.” He says this is due to “a really strong senior squad… (and) we have some strong juniors playing,” Morris said.

With a total of 12 goals scored over five games, which included two of the toughest opponents of the season, it seems that they have a promising outlook for the season.

Senior Joey Mueller is also confident about his final season of highschool soccer.

“We just keep working harder and harder every day and I think we are going to come out on top,” Mueller said.

Senior Armen Grigorian says he believes they will go far for a few reasons.

“We have a good chance this year because we’ve got a lot of talented people and we worked hard over the summer and so far it’s paid off and I think we will keep going. I am just happy I’m playing, it’s been a really fun season so far and I guess our hard work is paying off,” Grigorian said.

The boys soccer remains one of the most confident and talent-packed groups at Francis Howell Central.  With excellent coaching in place, a history of deep runs into the playoffs, and a team full of players with the attitude of a winner, it does not appear that confidence will be lacking as the team prepares to make a run at championships.
