Victory on the home court
From Central, the top four doubles teams in girls tennis, faced off against area schools on Sept. 1, in a doubles tournament. The tournament was hosted by the Spartans on their home court. Mackenzie Jones and Tori Ikeda placed the highest on the team, coming in third for number one doubles.
Jones and Ikeda faced St. Dominic in semifinals winning the match 5-2, only to face the same girls in finals. The highly anticipated match of the day resulted in a loss for our number one doubles team.
“The best thing about winning was doing it with Tori, because the girls we played against play tennis as their main sport, unlike Tori and I, who focus on soccer as being our main sport. They were very confident opponents, so it was really exciting to beat them!” Jones said.
Be sure to catch the girls tennis team next week on Wednesday, Sept. 13 against St. Charles West at home, with matches starting at 3:15.
